A prayer request...Cully has been sick all day. He has something with his stomach. He threw up once on the plane today(he made it to the bathroom) and has not felt great all day. We are hoping that it was something he ate and wakes up ready to go tomorrow. Also, we are hoping that we are not the next on the list of getting the stomach flu. I will let you know how he wakes up in the morning!
Here are some pictures that describe our day today.
On our first flight, we got to board the plane before anyone else. Caleb and Cully got to stop by the cock pit and talk with the captain for awhile. That was pretty cool! Here is a picture of them rubbing shoulders with our pilot!
In Phoenix, American Airlines (what we are using) said they did not know we were on a Make-A-Wish trip. I am not sure why it would have been important other than to say that as soon as they found out they gave us the red carpet treatment. Thus, we got to go on early, meet the pilot and so forth. They came to us throughout the flight and gave us food, checked on us to see how we were doing, and treated us like we were sitting in first class.
We made it to Miami and had a long lay over. The people in Phoenix told us to make sure we told the next city we were with Make-A-Wish and that they were going to put it into the computer as well. They told us to ask for 1st class. So, that is what we did. When we first got to the counter, the guy said he was not able to do anything because there was nothing in the computer that gave him the authorization to make that happen. No big deal. One of the flight attendants said that we were going to get awesome treatment in coach and it would be a lot of fun! We were excited!
We sat back down to wait for our flight to start boarding. While we were sitting there, one of those air port golf carts pulled up with several people in suits and nice clothes. They made their way over to the ticket counter and started talking to the people behind the ticket counter. Then, they started pointing at us. We had no idea what was happening. They then made their way over to us and introduced themselves. I am not sure exactly what they did, but they worked for American and had heard that we were there on a Make-A-Wish Trip. They had gone to one of the stores and bought Caleb and Cully a little something. Caleb got this pillow and Cully got some candy!
After that, they said, "We are also bumping you up to first class!" How cool! We also got to get on the plane early and meet the captain again. However, this time Caleb and Cully actually got to sit in the seats and turn the steering wheel (is that what it is called on an airplane). The captain was really cool and they had an awesome time. Here they are in action!
Then we went to our seats. They were awesome! They fully reclined...I mean you could almost lay horizontal if you wanted. The seats were electronically controlled as well. Caleb had his chair in every position possible before we even took off. It was kind of like the hospital bed at first...we have to see everything that this seat can do. Here he is kicking back before we took off.
And here is Tera and Cully chilling as well.
1st class was awesome! We got a full, hot meal and our seats had TV's on them with many movies, TV shows, and games to kill the time. Caleb watched Rise of the Guardians and Life of PI. Cully slept most of the fight. I watched some of Lincoln (although I had already seen it and was kind of dozing off during parts). It was cool! We even got a bowl of ice cream after dinner! What a fun experience!
So, all in all it wasn't a bad day. If Cully had not been sick it would have been an awesome day!
Tomorrow, we are supposed to get started with a tour of Quito at 9 am. Once again, we are praying that Cully feels better so that we can all go. We have the afternoon off so we will have to decide what we are going to do with our time.
I will try and post some more pictures tomorrow of our day! Please know that we are here and safe. Our motel is awesome and our guide is super nice!
More tomorrow...
Grace and Peace!
