A New Day-April 12th, 2012

Caleb had a good night..up a couple of times to pee and ultimately up around 6:30 am. We watched a little of the making of the Star Wars movies and after he got bored with that decided he wanted to play a little X-box. So, he is playing some Sonic game that is really old school. You know what they say, there is no school like the old school. I told him he only had a few minutes and then we needed to read a bit. We can't forget school!

The blood transfusion was uneventful. No side effects whatsoever! Praise the Lord! It is amazing the color Caleb has and how it gave him a little boost!

He woke up asking for breakfast, but the caf doesn't open until 7 am. So, he had a bag of goldfish and some gatorade. He was watching the clock and as soon as it hit 7, he said, "Dad, it's seven...can we order breakfast?" He ate a plate of scrambled eggs, 2 sausage links, some peaches and then a little bowl of Fruit Loops. Hopefully this appetite keeps up! He just asked for more Fruit Loops, but the nurse would like him to wait a bit to make sure he doesn't get a stomach ache.

A couple of things to pray for:
1-The start of chemo today. The chemo he will get today has a side effect of nausea. He will be getting anti-nausea medicine for the next 24 hours to try and stop it before it happens. So, that is something to pray about.
2-The nurse just came in and said that we need to switch the outside part of Caleb's port. She said they need to switch it every 7 days to make sure infection doesn't get in. This makes him a little nervous but Shantelle will be here and help him through the entire process.
3-We have the next rotation from the oncology department start today, Dr. Williams. We have already met him and he is a super guy. So, we are praying that transition will be smooth and that a connection will ultimately be made.
4-Here in the next couple of days, we will need to choose where we want Caleb to go to clinic. This practice has two clinics: one here at the hospital and one in Mesa. The Mesa office is only about 8 min closer and so we are thinking we will just come to PHX Childrens. If we stay here, Dr. Rosen, whom we love, will be our main Dr. If we decide to go to Mesa, Dr. Williams will be our main Dr. So, we are thinking and praying through the process.

Today is a new day and we are eagerly anticipating all that it brings.

I will keep you posted!

Grace and Peace
